Foreword: The Swim School Program is a service offered to the children of the Cayman Islands by the Department of Sports on behalf of the Ministry of Sports. As a result of it’s success in teaching young children the essential life-skill of being able to swim, the School has grown to be very popular and always operates at capacity.
Capacity – Approximately 400-440 students per term. (This number fluctuates slightly depending on the numbers of levels needed for each term as each of the levels has a different class capacity).
Maximum numbers per class:
Level 1 – 20 students
Level 2 – 5 students
Level 3 – 6 students
Level 4 – 10 students
Level 5 – 15 students
Note: There will be times when these numbers are exceeded slightly based on needs but only on the approval of the Swim School Coordinator.
Registration – Registration will be opened periodically. The aim is to open registration in January and September each year but is entirely dependant on the numbers on the reserve lists at the time. All registration forms accepted during these open periods will be filed and processed on a first come, first served basis. Registration will remain open until the Reserve List reaches a maximum of 125 students.
Registration dates will be published on the Departments website, www.departmentofsports.com and the registration form will be available there also during open registration periods.
At all other times, registration will be closed and we will be unable to accept any registration forms.
Reserve List - The students on the reserve list will be offered spaces as and when they become available. They will be processed in the order that their applications were received. It is important to note that at times, a form submitted after another one may be processed first. This would be the case if for example a space became available in a Level 4 class prior to a space becoming available in a Level 2 class.
Removal From Program – Students will be removed from the Program and their space filled by the next student from the Reserve List after missing two lessons without excuse.
